BC Film & TV Delegation Joins Premier Christy Clark in India: Industry Trade Mission October 13-17, 2014
BC film and television production delegates are joining Premier Christy Clark’s Jobs & Trade Mission to India this week on a bi-regional tour of the world’s most prolific motion picture production market.
The BC delegation itinerary includes facility tours, business to business meetings and networking events in both Hyderabad and Mumbai on the five day mission. BC delegates represent a range of industry interests including live action, animation and visual effects production, as well as facilities and professional services.
“India is a fascinating motion picture production market with enormous capacity and new potential,” said Motion Picture Production Industry Assn. Chair Peter Leitch. “BC-India ties have always been favourable, including the Province of BC hosting the Times of India Film Awards here last year, but to date the BC production sector has not fully capitalized on business development that could be mutually beneficial. We look forward to exploring these opportunities further,” Leitch added.
Canadian Media Production Assn. (BC Producers’ Branch) Managing Vice-President Liz Shorten said, “BC production industry trade missions to international markets – most recently Hong Kong and the United Kingdom – have proven very successful in terms of new business development for our members. We expect India to be equally productive, particularly in light of Canada’s new official co-production treaty with India.”
BC’s screen entertainment production sector stands among the best in the world and generates in excess of $1 billion in revenue annually as part the Province of British Columbia’s estimated $4 billion dollar creative economy.
