‘Leadership on Location’ Forum In Vancouver: Together, International Industry Explores Sustainability Priorities
Vancouver, BC — The Directors Guild BC (DGC BC), the Locations Managers Guild International (LMGI) and the MPPIA Motion Picture Community Initiative (MPCI) proudly presented the third edition of the ‘Leadership on Location’ series September 16 & 17, 2022 in Vancouver, this year focusing on priorities that will ensure a progressive, equitable and sustainable motion picture production ecosystem for years to come. The full program of events was made possible with additional support from Creative BC, MBS Studios Canada, Willliam F. White, the Vancouver Economic Commission and the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association.
With participants joining the discussion from across Canada, the USA and Australia, Emcee and Location Manager Matt Palmer led the day with three panels sessions tackling key topics central to a healthy, robust future for the global motion picture industry:
Panel 1: Engaging with our First Nations Partners Moderator: Mike Fantasia (LM Top Gun, Maverick, Killers of the Flower Moon). Special presentations from Squamish Nation Councilor Wilson Williams, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture & Sport , The Honourable Melanie Mark, The Red Institute Celebration Institute Founder/CEO Joanelle Romero, DGC National Chair Warren P. Sonoda and BC Director Heather Hawthorne-Doyle were additional program highlights, while the Green Vendor Showcase featured key suppliers ensuring that production in BC is leading on enviromental sustainability.
The day’of presentations and discussion were capped off with a special Leadership on Location Celebration and Awards Reception at the Vancouver Art Gallery — to recognize community citizenship and environmental stewardship in BC-based production.
