No Rain on this Parade: 25th Anniversary Stephen J. Cannell Golf Fundraiser Sells Out, Celebrates Industry Giving
The BC motion picture production community gathered at Point Grey Golf & Country Club on Monday June 24 to raise money for great causes; players got wet, but neither spirits nor generosity were dampened as the sold out tournament fulfilled fundraising goals for charity again this year.
Dinner host, Vancouver Man About Town Fred Lee put his auctioneer’s skills to the test, adding $10k to the event proceeds to ensure the day’s $20,000 goal was reached. Proceeds this year are to benefit Mind Check, the Greater Vancouver Foodbank and the MPPIA Short Film Award.
Formerly known as the MPPIA All Star Golf Tournament, the event was renamed in 2011 to pay tribute to the original tournament’s founder, BC motion picture industry builder Stephen J. Cannell, who passed away in September 2010. Industry paid tribute to Mr. Cannell again this year by upholding his tradition of community citizenship.
The Stephen J. Cannell Classic Golf Tournament is an enduring success thanks to the generosity of sponsors, participants and volunteers who return year after year – the Motion Picture Production Industry Association of BC extends sincere appreciation for the continued support. MPPIA wishes to gratefully acknowledge: Partner Sponsors Directors Guild of Canada, BC District Council and William F White International; and SuperStar Sponsors Encore and Preferred Services Custom Brokers; as well as numerous sponsors and supporters who contribute to this fundraising initiative annually.
